Connect. Learn. Rejuvenate. Globalize!

You're invited to join us at the annual Career Thought Leaders Symposium in Lisbon, Portugal. Enjoy the vibrant, historic city, beautiful April weather, and a luxury resort (at a great group rate!). Network with colleagues from around the world, and make some new friends too.

Our speaker lineup includes thought leaders from the careers industry and outside the industry to bring you resources you need to refresh your approach and the inspiration you need to renew your energy.

Learn why Kelli will keep coming back to the CTL Symposium!

Who attends the Career Thought Leaders Professional Development Symposium? Career and leadership coaches, career services staff, professional resume writers, educators, personal branding strategists, military transition staff, and like-minded professionals who guide others in advancing their careers and their professional development.

The CTL leadership team is recognized for putting together a leading-edge curriculum for all our events. The annual professional development symposium always brings the best minds together for you to learn from.

Do you want to get the latest information but hate when you feel like you didn't apply anything you learned?

Us, too! Even before it was cool, we created unique spaces for professionals to share their expertise. We know adults learn by sharing, questioning, and integrating information.

We work with our presenters to make sure each presentation gives you not only the latest information but time and space to share, integrate, and make that information actionable.

Will it be recorded or simulcasted? Not this event...

While we do extensive virtual training throughout the year (for 15+ years running), we also know the power of focus that comes with attending a live, in-person event.

That is why we are so excited to bring this back as an exclusive, interactive learning event.

Can I earn Continuing Education hours (CCEs / CEUs)?

Yes, you can track your attendance at sessions throughout the Symposium and use the session descriptions and the attendance form to demonstrate hours toward your credentials.

These hours are focused on career development and may count for up to 16 Continuing Education contact hours, depending on the topics you choose (business development hours typically do not count toward coaching or career services credentials).

These may count toward credentials with the National Career Development Association, the National Resume Writers' Association, Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE; for the BCC or GCDF), or other organizations. They would be "resource development" hours for the International Coach Federation (ICF).

Bonus Time!

Everyone who registers before April 4 will receive an exclusive bonus - access to the AI Sandbox!

Get access to the AI in Career Services Sandbox through November 2024. Learn from weekly case studies and ask your AI questions in monthly office hours!

8:00 am - Breakfast & Networking with Colleagues

  • 8:45 am - The New Rules of Career Growth with Antoinette Oglethorpe
What will work look like five years from now? Will the roles we have today even exist in five, 10 or 20 years? And what will happen to the organisation and industry you work for?

We don’t know what the future holds, but we do know that we live in changing, turbulent times. This means that jobs could be very different – or even irrelevant – in the years to come.

Growth in today’s organisation environment means thinking differently about development. It’s no longer about career ladders and restrictive career paths. Career development is less about job moves and changes in grade. It is more to do with someone’s experience, satisfaction and skill development.

The New Rules of Career Growth will give career practitioners tools to inspire people to take ownership of their career in a way that is meaningful and right for them.

In this engaging and inspiring session, Antoinette will help you understand:
    • Why futureproofing is important for careers worldwide
    • How the world of work has changed, and career development has changed with it
    • The steps practitioners can apply to guide clients to take ownership of their careers in a way that is meaningful

    ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Presenter: Antoinette Oglethorpe, Multi-Award-Winning Specialist in Career Management and Mentoring

Her mission is to help people realise their potential and fulfil their ambitions so that organisations benefit from the increased productivity that results when people are happier at work.
Antoinette has created unique models, tools and templates to help managers and employees have meaningful conversations about progression and development. These approaches are now being used by the World Health Organisation, NHS and government departments among others.

  • 10:00 am - How to Engage Young People in Careers & Career Conversations - Jake Richings
How would it feel if everyone was as engaged in their career as your favourite client? About 30% of Generation 'Z' are engaged in their career. That means 30% are willing to make a change to get that next promotion or their dream job.

Engagement isn't about likes and followers. Engagement is about creating a behaviour change that gets people doing what's in their best interests.

By the end of the session, you'll learn how to engage people who aren't looking for your services, giving you access to thousands of potential new clients who may have never considered (or heard of) your offering!

  • Choice 1: Expand Your Reach & Impact with Group Coaching with Ruth Winden
As career professionals, we care deeply about helping clients make lasting transformations in their professional lives. But how do we best support our clients during growing uncertainty and unpredictability in the workplace? How do we respond to clients who look for meaning, connection, and a sense of belonging whilst they go through unsettling career transitions? And how do we make our careers practice financially viable for clients and for ourselves, especially when clients’ purse strings are tight?

In this workshop, I will draw on my 20+ years of leading group-based career coaching programmes and share my practical experience, approaches, and tips on engaging with clients in a group setting and facilitating real change.

By the end of this interactive workshop, you will have
    - Learnt what it takes to deliver a successful group-based career coaching programme and decide whether it is for you
    - Compared different programme models that are an effective, engaging, and impactful way of facilitating clients’ career transitions.
    - Gained ideas for your own programme(s) that suit your audience, expertise and delivery style
    - Understood some of the typical challenges of facilitating group-based programmes and how to address or avoid them from the very beginning.
Whilst the traditional one-to-one career coaching model will always have its place, I hope you will leave the workshop enthused and ready to explore alternative delivery modes that you can integrate into your professional practice. In my view, there has never been a better time to expand our services and offer joyful and engaging group experiences that create lasting change for our clients.

6:00 pm - Evening Activity – Night on the Town

Friday, April 12, 2024

8:30 am - Breakfast & Networking with Colleagues

  • 9:00 am - Embracing the Great Unknown: Coaching Strategies for Client Resilience (And Your Own) with Gary Anello
An Indeed report recently revealed that more than half (52%) of workers reported feeling burned out:
    • 31% of baby boomers
    • 59% of millennials
    • 58% of Gen Z

Different studies provide slightly different data and you can quibble over the numbers but one thing is clear: Statistics around burnout are alarming and cannot be ignored.

We come face-to-face with our clients’ burnout regularly, no matter their age, or whether they’re on-site, hybrid, or fully remote. Not only do our clients look to us to help navigate their next career steps, they may look to us to help them manage and navigate that burnout, as well.

Resilience is a word we hear a lot today. We know that resilience is necessary to manage in the world of work following the “Great Reshuffle” (Thank you, McKinsey), but do we know what resilience is exactly?

In this session, we’ll explore resilience of and for our clients. It will look at what resilience is, what it isn’t, what the difference is between raw resilience – that resilience we innately have – and learned resilience – the resilience we cultivate.

But just as important is this: How do we look after ourselves before burnout gets the best of us?

Many of us work remotely; and we’re often self-employed. One study during the pandemic showed upwards of 69% of remote workers experiencing burnout. That number was certainly exacerbated by the pandemic itself. Still, in 2022, it hovered around 59%. And there’s evidence that the self-employed are just as at risk of burnout as employees, if not more.

So, in this VUCA world, we need to become resilient for our clients. And ultimately for yourself.

The session will be an opportunity to explore strategies to cultivate resilience in your clients and in your own life. So that you can show up for your clients and serve them in the best way possible.
